Charles R. Rice, life-long friend of Gary Buffington, willed $32,500 to the Gary L. Buffington Memorial Scholarship Fund. This incredibly generous gift will help the ISA Education Foundation continue to recognize an outstanding college senior studying industrial distribution every year.
Charles R. "Chuck" Rice owned a landscape design firm in the Atlanta, Ga., area, where he lived for many years. He was known for his benevolent works, and was a torchbearer in Atlanta's 1996 Olympics in recognition of those efforts. He enjoyed art, antiques, fine dining and overseas travel, but more than anything else, loved spending time with his many nieces and nephews. He passed away on Sept. 22, 2014.
John Jacobsen, chair of the ISA Education foundation, expressed deep thanks for the donation in a letter to Rice's family:
"On behalf of ISA and the Education Foundation, thank you for the generous gift of $32,500 to the Gary L. Buffington Scholarship Fund. Charles Rice's personal connection and dedication to Gary Buffington is shown through his generosity in bestowing the scholarship with this contribution. Along with his everlasting legacy, Charles has left behind a commitment to the professional development of individuals within the industry that Gary cared so much about. This inspirational devotion and generosity will positively affect many people for countless years to come."
