Wajax has named the former president of Sonepar’s Canadian operations as its new CEO, the company announced last week.

The Canadian industrial supply and equipment provider — no. 27 on ID’s latest Big 50 list — said that George McClean would take over as president and CEO on March 3 and will also join the company’s board. He succeeds Iggy Domagalski, who announced that he would step aside as CEO in October.

McClean left Sonepar in May to pursue what the company called “an opportunity outside of the electrical industry.” He previously held roles with National Tire Distributors, General Motors and Grainger.

"George is an exceptional leader with a demonstrated ability to deliver results, build culture and execute strategy in complex environments," Wajax Chairman Edward Barrett said in the announcement. "His experience leading major transformations, driving operational excellence and growing businesses in Canada and abroad makes him the ideal CEO for Wajax's next chapter.”

“Together, we will build on Wajax's strong foundation, accelerate growth and focus on delivering outstanding results,” McClean said. “My priorities are to empower our people and deliver strategic initiatives that will create long-term value and strengthen our position as an industry leader."
