Ceramabind To Seal Porous Refractories

Ceramabind 542 is an inorganic, water-dispersed, aluminum-phosphate binder that resists temperatures to 3200 oF (1760 oC) and is ideal for hardening and sealing porous refractories and thermal spray coatings.

Valley Cottage, NY – Ceramabind 542, a new high temperature inorganic binder system formulated by Aremco Products, Inc., is now used to harden and seal porous refractories and thermal spray coatings for high temperature applications to 3200 oF (1760 oC). Ceramabind 542 is an inorganic, water-dispersed, aluminum-phosphate binder that resists temperatures to 3200 oF (1760 oC) and is ideal for hardening and sealing porous refractories and thermal spray coatings. It is applied easily by brush, spatula, spray gun, or syringe and cures fully in one hour at 700 oF or in-situ during equipment operation. The cured film provides a very dense, abrasion and scratch resistant seal that helps to extend the refractory life by reducing erosion and improving corrosion resistance. Ceramabind 542 is also an inert, electrically and chemically resistant material that will not outgas in ultra high vacuum (UHV). It is formulated to a viscosity of 40-50 cP, solids content by weight of 40.0-45.0%, and specific gravity of 1.47 g/cc. Typical applications for Ceramabind 542 include sealing thermal spray coatings used to insulate boiler tubes in power plants and corrosion protection and hardening of refractories used in rotary calciners. It is also used to protect graphite crucibles from oxidation in metallurgical applications. Ceramabind 542 is available from stock in pint, quart, gallon and five-gallon drums.
