Alex McGill, Vice President of McGill Hose & Coupling, Inc., was recently chosen as President of The Association for Hose and Accessories Distribution (NAHAD).

McGill has been in the fluid handling business, and a member of NAHAD, since 2000.

Founded in 1984, NAHAD provides its members with the latest information, ideas and insight to help run their businesses more successfully. This association serves to foster a sense of partnership and support between hose distributors and manufacturers and offers members many resources to help them meet the always-changing needs of the industry.

While the President presides at all meetings of NAHAD's board and executive committee and other meetings as required, McGill's key responsibilities are actually much farther reaching. He is now involved with policy and planning, budget and finance, board recruitment and development, membership retention, communications and public relations.

Asked about NAHAD's current goals, McGill said, "Every three years, the NAHAD board meets for a two-day strategic Planning meeting, where we craft an updated business plan for NAHAD's next three years. This process has provided an effective roadmap for guiding NAHAD's course over the past dozen years."

The goals of the current Strategic Plan include achieving industry acceptance of NAHAD Hose Assembly Guidelines by manufacturers, distributors, end-users and relevant standards organizations and capitalizing on the NAHAD website and technology to enhance the organization's value as a member resource. These challenges are being met by the updated nahad.org site, as well as the new hose guidelines site (hoseguidelines.com), which went online this past December.

Increasing distributor membership and market share, strengthening requirements for manufacturer membership and restructuring the membership requirements and dues levels in response to industry consolidation are among the other present organization goals.

McGill reports that headway has been made in all of these areas. He further stated, "This year, we are again holding strategic planning events to develop our 2010-2013 Plan. My goal is to make sure these are successful events and the results are communicated to membership in a timely fashion."
