Following its Aug. 1 completed acquisition by private investment firm Clayton, Dubilier & Rice, HD Supply Waterworks is now its own company, complete with a new name.

The company announced Wednesday that it has branded itself as Core & Main — a name meant to mark the final step in its acquisition process.

“The name Core & Main allows us to continue our incredible journey as a leading distributor in the water infrastructure and fire protection industries as well as adjacent markets,” Core & Main CEO Steve LeClair stated in a press release. “As an independent company, Core & Main has an exciting opportunity to accelerate our growth.”

Core & Main was acquired from HD Supply for $2.5 billion, leaving HD Supply with two business units — Facilities Maintenance, and Construction & Industrial - White Cap. The sale followed the company's two other divestments over the past two years of Interior Solutions in 2016, and Power Solutions in 2015.

Core & Main still touts itself as the nation’s largest distributor of water, sewer, storm and fire protection products — as it did as segment of HD Supply. The company says as it plans for growth, it will continue its legacy of service and innovation with a commitment to provide quality products and services.

“Core & Main is not a new company; we’re a company with a long history of dependable expertise providing local customer service to contractors and communities across the nation,” LeClair said. “We supply the core infrastructure and fire protection materials needed to support community development and protect people and property. Our new name reflects our continued commitment to provide innovative solutions for new and existing customers in this space.”

The company — which can be found on the web at www.coreandmain.com — stated that it currently employs approximately 2,900 associates at 246 branch locations throughout the U.S.
