COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — South Carolina is getting some big economic news with word of a New York-based paper products company spending up to $1 billion on a new plant.

State Rep. Dan Cooper of Piedmont says Friday's announcement would be good news for Anderson County, which has a 12.5 percent unemployment rate.

Cooper says the plant being built by First Quality Enterprises Inc. could bring up to 1,000 jobs.

The Great Neck, N.Y.-based company, is privately held. Cooper says the maker of paper towels, toilet paper, diapers and feminine hygiene products would remodel an existing facility and add buildings.
