The parent of Reuland Electric Company announced Tuesday that it has acquired Motor Appliance Corporation, a Missouri-based manufacturer of specialty electric motors, battery chargers and related electronic and electromechanical products.
OnCore Motor Group said that the acquisition will complement Reuland’s product line and capabilities, as well as combine two U.S. motor manufacturers with long histories of engineering and manufacturing custom motor solutions.
Reuland, founded in 1937, designs and manufactures electric motors for demanding applications including cranes, elevators, movable bridges, marine and shipboard equipment, military systems and critical infrastructure. MAC, incorporated in 1946, and has spent 80 years developing specialized motor and charging solutions for customers in material handling, pumps, HVAC, medical equipment, military applications, transportation maintenance, recreation and construction.
Company officials said that MAC's ability to support customers from initial concept through finished-product supply, along with its in-house manufacturing and OEM/ODM experience, should complement Reuland's vertically integrated manufacturing approach, engineering flexibility and ability to develop for difficult applications. The acquisition will also broaden Reuland's capabilities at the smaller end of the motor spectrum: MAC's product portfolio includes compact AC induction motors in NEMA 42, 48 and 56 frames, brushless DC motors with power-dense, short-length designs and integrated or external controls, UL and CSA-approved hazardous-duty motors, and custom stator and rotor assemblies.
MAC also brings specialized pancake, hermetic, 400 Hz and stainless-steel motor designs for applications where space, environment, temperature or performance requirements demand more than a standard motor can provide, while MAC's industrial and commercial battery charger lines, officials said, add an entirely new dimension to Reuland's offering. Those products serve lift trucks, pallet jacks, automated guided vehicles, boom lifts, scissor lifts, floor-care equipment and golf cars with charging solutions spanning light commercial batteries through large industrial systems. The addition of power electronics and charging expertise should create new opportunities for Reuland to serve customers with more complete motor, control and power-system solutions.
MAC will continue to operate from its Washington, Missouri, headquarters. Reuland’s operations and resources will add support to MAC's customers, employees and product lines while investing for future growth.
"This is not simply about adding products," Reuland CEO Grant Bibby said in a statement. "It is about bringing together two teams that know how to listen, engineer and manufacture. MAC has earned its reputation over eight decades. We intend to respect that legacy, strengthen it and create new opportunities for both organizations."
Financial terms were not disclosed.
