On Thursday, Fortune revealed its 61st annual Fortune 500, the well-known total revenue-based ranking list of America's largest corporations across all industries.
While Walmart takes the top spot for the third straight year — followed by Exxon Mobile and Chevron — a large contingent of industrial distributors make repeat appearances further down the list (which actually goes to 1,000).
Grainger is the first of Industrial Distribution's 2014 Big 50 companies to appear on the list, coming in at No. 290. HD Supply and WESCO International follow at 316 and 360, while Anixter International and MRC Global at 420 and 448 made for five Big 50 companies in the Fortune 500. Genuine Parts Company — of which Motion Industries (No. 9 on Big 50) is a subsidiary — came in at 199. Airgas was slightly outside at 508, while MSC Industrial and Applied Industrial Technologies were at 798 and 880, respectively.
Electrical distributor Avnet is No. 108, Emerson Electric is 120, followed by National Oilwell Varco and Arrow Electronics at 127 and 131. Graybar checks in at 445.
Genuine Parts Company was No. 205 last year, while Grainger bumped up five from spots 295 in 2014. HD Supply moved up one spot, while WESCO fell 11 spots from 349 a year ago. Anixter repeated at 420, while Graybar moved up four spots. Airgas fell 10 spots, Applied gained 28 from its No. 880 ranking last year, while MSC Industrial fell 56 spots down the list.
Grainger is the fourth highest-ranked diversified wholesaler, followed by HD Supply and WESCO at 7 and 8, and Anixter at 10 in that category. Graybar and Airgas are 11 and 12. Genuine Parts Company is No. 3.
Fortune lists MSC Industrial as having the fifth-largest revenue percent gain out of all companies on the list. HD Supply, WESCO, and Grainger are 12th, 13th, and 15th.
