Wisconsin building products distributor Wausau Supply Co. announced Thursday that it will add a new manufacturing facility near its existing operations in Northeast Michigan.

The 260,000-square-foot complex in West Branch, Michigan, would provide “a hub for advanced manufacturing” to help meet demand from builders, contractors and dealers across its nationwide footprint, officials said.

"This facility lets us expand our manufacturing capabilities to meet real demand from our customers,” President and CEO Brian Miller said in a statement.

Company officials credited the area’s “skilled workforce and strong regional partnerships” for the decision to expand in West Branch over other potential locations in Canada and Wisconsin. The company expects to invest at least $41 million in the new facility and create 92 jobs; 108 people currently work in its West Branch operations.

Michigan officials will provide $575,000 in grant funding to support the project.

Wausau Supply operates six manufacturing facilities and more than 20 distribution centers in the U.S.
