Edgen Murray, a leading global supplier of specialty steel products and logistics solutions for the energy and infrastructure sectors has expanded its presence in the Asia Pacific region with the opening of a new office in Seoul, South Korea.

The Korean office will market Edgen Murray’s strengths in specialty steel supply and project management for the Korean offshore fabrication markets and support the growth of Korean EPC contractors that have been successful in winning major global project work. The Korean offshore fabrication market has expanded significantly over the past number of years to be one of the largest in the world today.

South Korea is also the world’s third largest importer of steel after the US and Germany and the largest in Asia with 22.8 MT* imported in 2011.

Edgen Murray’s international project teams will utilize the new location to centralize procurement efforts, supply chain management and project management for Korean steel customers. Korean mills are some of the most advanced in the world, producing high quality and high yield materials at competitive prices.

Craig Kiefer, Edgen Murray’s President said, “With Korea now a dominant importer and exporter of steel, we are committed to deepening our engagement with the Korean market, getting closer to our Korean customers and supporting our international Korean procurement.”

“Maintaining close working relationships with both suppliers and customers has helped Edgen Murray perform its role as a specialty steel supplier for the global Energy and Infrastructure Sectors. Our Korean team has extensive experience as well as strong, long-term relationships with key Korean customers and suppliers for both PVF and Structural Products.”

Edgen Murray’s business in Korea has historically been in the upstream segment supplying specialty steels that are not available in the local market to offshore fabrication customers, particularly in Busan and Geoje.
