Hitachi Energy plans to expand its manufacturing operations in West Tennessee, state and company officials announced Wednesday.
The company plans to invest $97 million in the complex in Alamo, Tennessee — a project expected to create 100 new jobs — and anticipates additional growth in the future. The investment, officials said, will allow the company to expand its manufacturing presence and increase its total capacity for transformer components, such as high-voltage direct current (HVDC) bushings.
Hitachi Energy provides power grid and digital technologies, such as high-voltage, transformers, automation and power electronics. The company, based in Switzerland, is the energy arm of Japanese tech giant Hitachi Group.
“This investment in Tennessee is also an investment in the future of America’s energy infrastructure," Steve McKinney, head of transformers, North America for Hitachi Energy, said in a statement.
"This facility plays a critical role in meeting fast-growing energy demand from AI as well as grid expansion and modernization, and we’re proud to grow our footprint and strengthen domestic manufacturing right here in Tennessee."
