Fastenal Daily Sales Climb Nearly 15% in May

The company posted more than $750 million in monthly net sales.

Fastenal said Thursday that its May sales were up nearly 15% on a daily basis compared to the same month last year.

The company reported $751.5 million in net sales last month, which was up 9.3% overall despite one fewer selling day this May; net sales per day rose by 14.8% year-over-year. 

Fastenal’s sales to heavy manufacturing customers, its largest end market, were up by 18.7% last month, while other manufacturing sales climbed by 11.5%. Non-residential construction sales increased by 16% and all other end markets were up by 12.4%. Sales to OEM customers rose by 16% as sales to the MRO side increased by 14.5%.

The company’s sales in the U.S., which accounted for more than 82% of its total, were up 13.3%; sales in Canada and Mexico combined rose by over 20%, and sales increased by nearly 30% in its other international markets.

May’s numbers followed a 14.3% sales increase in April and a 12.4% increase across the first quarter of the year. The Minnesota-based fastener and industrial supply giant ranked no. 4 on ID’s latest Big 50 list.
