LONDON (AP) — Rolls-Royce Group PLC, the manufacturer of the plane engine that blew apart midair on a Qantas superjumbo earlier this month, has won a $1.2 billion engine service contract from Emirates airline.
The London-based company said Wednesday it will provide long term services support for Trent 700 engines powering 29 Airbus A330 aircraft and Trent 800 engines powering 21 Boeing 777 aircraft.
The deal is more good news for Rolls-Royce after it recently signed engine orders with Air China and China Eastern Airlines worth a total of $3 billion.
Shares in the company are up 1.4 percent at 607 pence ($9.58) on the London Stock Exchange. The stock's now lost around 7.3 percent since the Qantas A380 incident involving a Trent 900 engine — but is off lows of 10 percent losses.
