Anixter Moving Memphis Distribution Operations

Anixter, No. 6 on Industrial Distribution's 2014 Big 50 List, looked in North Mississippi as a possible new location, but decided to stay in Memphis.

Anixter International, a global distributor of electrical wire and cable, OEM supply fasteners, and other small parts, is relocating its Memphis, Tennessee distribution center, according to a report by Memphis Daily News.

The supplier has reportedly leased 100,000 square feet at 4001 Hickory Hill Road in the Memphis Distribution Center, roughly 2 miles northeast of its current location at 4580 S. Mendenhall Road, where life science outsources service provider DDN is expanding. The new building is owned by Industrial Income Trust out of Dallas. Greg de Witt of Newmark Grubb Memphis represented Anixter.

According to the report, De Witt said finding the size range Anixter wanted with the company’s requirements was difficult, as options were limited in Memphis.

“We looked in North Mississippi as well as Memphis,” the Memphis Daily News quoted De Witt. “I think they wanted a Memphis address and they did stay in Memphis, which is great.

“It’s not easy to find the newer space, with modern amenities and all that, in 100,000-square-foot chunks. Even though this was a lower-ceiling building it still had a sprinkler system and deeper truck courts the competition did not have.”

Anixter is No. 6 on Industrial Distribution's 2014 Big 50 List.
