Ferguson and its Explore The Trades Skills Lab this month announced the recipients of its fifth annual round of equipment grants.

Eighteen schools, selected from what officials said was a record volume of applications, will receive funding for the 2025-2026 academic year. The grants are expected to reach more than 2,100 students through “hands-on access to skilled trades” and exposure to “high-demand, well-paying” careers.

The lab has provided equipment to 49 high schools and 4 middle schools — reaching over 5,500 students — since its debut in 2021. Ferguson officials said this month that between the Skills Lab and other initiatives, it aims to connect 50,000 young people to the skilled trades by 2030.

"A strong workforce starts with providing real opportunities, support and clear industry entry points,” Ferguson Director of Social Impact Melissa Hazelwood said in a statement.
