The Home Depot will lay off nearly 800 employees in corporate roles in a move that executives said was designed to “increase our speed and agility.”

The home improvement retail giant notified Georgia officials on Thursday that it plans to issue 797 layoffs; 146 of those jobs are located at its Vinings, Georgia, headquarters, while the remainder work remotely. The company also told employees that corporate workers will be required to work in their offices five days a week effective April 6.

A company spokesperson told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that many of the affected jobs are in technology roles.

“To extend our industry-leading position, we must position the company to move faster and stay even more closely connected to our customers and frontline associates,” Home Depot Chairman, President and CEO Ted Decker wrote in a letter to employees obtained by the paper.

The retailer raised its sales projections but reduced its earnings outlook following its most recent financial results, amid a sluggish housing market and flagging consumer confidence. It will report its fourth-quarter earnings in late February.
