Texas Gov. Greg Abbott announced Amazon has selected Austin as the site of a new robotics manufacturing facility. He said the multi-billion-dollar development will create 300 to 500 new jobs in manufacturing and engineering.
Amazon said that since 2010, it has invested more than $100 billion in Texas, including infrastructure and compensation to its 86,000 full- and part-time employees in the state.
Neither Abbott nor Amazon provided details about the size of the factory or when it will be completed.
“Austin's talented workforce, world-class universities, and strong community partnerships make it the ideal home for this facility,” said Amazon Vice President of Worldwide Economic Development Holly Sullivan. “We're proud to deepen our commitment to this city and the state of Texas.”
