Fastenal's Strong Sales Growth Continues In July

The company's recent acquisition of Manufacturer's Supply Company helped boost fastener sales more than 11 percent year-over-year, while total sales growth topped 12 percent for a second straight month.

Fastenal reported its July sales results on Friday, showing continued strong year-over-year gains across all segments.

The Winona, MN-based company posted sales of $350.0 million, up 12.9 percent year-over-year, with daily sales up by that same amount. It follows Fastenal's June that had $394.3 million in sales, which was up 13.0 percent YoY.

Fastenal's July U.S. sales grew 11.8 percent year-over-year, while total North America sales grew 12.8 percent.

Sales to manufacturing customers grew 14.2 percent year-over-year, while sales to non-residential manufacturing customers grew 6.6 percent. That follows growth of 8.1 percent and 7.2 percent, respectively, in June. Those figures exclude the impact of Fastenal's acquisition of Manufacturer's Supply Company (Mansco).

July fastener sales grew 11.3 percent year-over-year, and non-fastener sales grew 14.1 percent. Those figures follow June growth of 6.7 percent and 11.3 percent, respectively. Those figures include the acquisition of Mansco.

Fastenal opened two new stores during July and didn't close any, bringing its total store count to 2,453 as of July 31 — down 154 from a year earlier.

Fastenal ended July with a total company headcount of 20,230, which includes 119 added from the Mansco acquisition. That count is up 56 from the end of June and essentially identical to a year earlier. The company's branch and Onsite personnel are up 1.7 percent year-over-year, with total selling personnel of 13,428 up 1.8 percent.
