Shipping company FedEx is planning to construct 312,000+ square foot facility in the Grimes Industrial Park in Pittston, PA, according to CitizensVoice and The Scranton Times-Tribune. The DC would be more than triple the size of FedEx Ground's existing location in Pittston.
Sources say FedEx has leased a 117,000 square foot facility in Pittston's CenterPoint Commerce and Trade Park East since 2007, though FedEx has not said if it is leaving that location. The company has also not commented on how many jobs the new facility would create.
“We are currently in (a) quiet period before our quarterly earnings announcement on March 18,” said FedEx Ground spokesman David Westwick.“Until that date, it is company policy not to give forward-looking statements, which includes information pertaining to real estate expansion projects.”
Indianopolis-based Scannell Properties, developer for FedEx Ground, made two land purchases in the area – a 38-acre parcel for $950,000, and an adjacent 20-acre parcel for $304,704.
