Zoro.com’s ‘Completely Different’ Approach to Technology

The Grainger subsidiary’s chief technology officer on how his team provides value "directly to our customers."

In the spring of 2011, MRO distribution giant Grainger launched a new e-commerce subsidiary targeting smaller businesses than those served by its flagship operation.

The fledgling company, originally known as Zoro Tools, started out with a portfolio of some 180,000 products and just 20 employees.

Fast-forward a dozen years, and Zoro.com now comprises more than 600 staff members and a lineup that has grown to 11 million unique products — and it just crossed a major sales threshold for the first time.

Zoro Chief Technology Officer Andy Goodfellow joins Industrial Distribution to discuss how Zoro got here, and where it’s headed next.
