'Major Fire' Destroys Industrial Supply Warehouse

The hose and gasket supplier warned that new orders would be "slightly delayed."

A Southern California industrial supplier said new orders would be “slightly delayed” in the wake of a “major fire” at one of its facilities.

Fire officials told the San Diego Union-Tribune that a three-alarm blaze broke out at Western Hose and Gasket in National City late Monday.

The fire destroyed the smaller of two warehouses at the suburban San Diego complex. The larger facility was salvaged.

The wrecked warehouse contained rubber, plastic, paper and propane fuel for forklifts. Witnesses reported hearing explosions as the fire raged.

The cause remains under investigation. Officials paused the probe this week due to concerns about the structure’s safety.

No one was at the facility at the time of the fire and no one was injured. Officials estimated the damage at $6 million.

Western wrote on its website that its email and phone service were restored and that it plans to have a temporary location in “the next week or so.”

The company operates another location in the Los Angeles suburb of Whittier.
