The Home Depot announced Wednesday that it has acquired Simpl Automation, a suburban Boston developer of distribution center automation systems.
The home improvement retailer said that the deal follows a successful pilot of Simpl’s technology at its distribution hub in Locust Grove, Georgia. The demonstration led to faster pick speeds and cycle times, along with fewer product touches, officials said.
Home Depot officials also said that Simpl’s patented storage and retrieval solution enables users to maximize storage density at their facilities.
“We’re focused on providing the best interconnected experience in home improvement by having products in stock and ready to deliver to our customers whether it's to the home or jobsite,” Home Depot Senior Vice President of Supply Chain Amit Kalra said in a statement. “By bringing SIMPL’s industry-leading automation into our operations, we’re accelerating the flow of products through our distribution network to deliver with unprecedented speed and precision.”
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
