Grainger on Wednesday held its fifth annual “Grainger Bucket Build” event to put together thousands of disaster recovery kits at its suburban Chicago headquarters.
Company officials said that more than 500 Grainger volunteers filled five-gallon buckets with cleaning supplies and hand tools, which will, in turn, be distributed to communities by ToolBank USA. Potential destinations, the company said, could include Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, New Orleans, Panama City and Tampa, Florida, and San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Buckets assembled in its first four years have been distributed to 97 communities to date across the continental U.S., Hawaii and Puerto Rico.
"The Bucket Build is more than assembling supplies; it's about working together to help communities recover when disaster strikes while creating pathways to meaningful work,” Grainger Chief Human Resources Officer Melanie Tinto said in a statement.
