Core & Main Inc. will implement an “advanced metering infrastructure system” in Connecticut under an agreement with a water utility in the state, company officials announced earlier this month.

The St. Louis-based waterworks, PVF and fire protection distributor will work with water technology company Xylem on the “turnkey solution” for Connecticut Water Company’s service area.

The solution, Core & Main officials said, utilizes Xylem’s “Sensus AMI” lineup, including Sensus smart meters and endpoints and the Sensus FlexNet communication network, along with iPerl water meters, SmartPoint communication modules, and Ally and Cordonel meters for pressure and temperature data. The company, along with its installation subcontractor VEPO Solutions, plans to install more than 100,000 Sensus smart meters and endpoints.

Core & Main and its partners, meanwhile, will manage network operations, system optimization and maintenance through its “CORE+” network-as-a-service and software-as-a-service, and the solution will be integrated with CWC’s Oracle Customer Cloud Service platform to provide data across its existing operations, billing and customer service systems.

The new technology, the company said, would allow customers to read water meters without field service appointments; it would also improve water use visibility and monitoring, and enable faster detection of leaks.

Core & Main ranked at no. 6 on ID’s latest Big 50 list.
