Southern California manufacturer PHI Hydraulics has been acquired by a counterpart in the U.K., company officials announced Thursday.

Unison Ltd., a leading maker of tube and pipe bending machines, said the addition of PHI’s machinery and tooling capabilities would establish a “one-stop” provider of “total tube technology,” as well as accelerate the growth of its Virginia-based U.S. subsidiary.

“PHI’s product range and customer base will not only enhance our product portfolio and market position, but will also help affirm Unison Tube LLC as a key provider of tube forming technologies in the United States,” Unison Ltd. Joint Managing Director Alan Pickering said in a statement. “Acquiring PHI and its key personnel is significant for us. The assets we have obtained are a perfect fit for our long-term growth strategy.”

PHI supports tube bending and end-forming machine tool needs both in the U.S. and internationally — particularly in the aerospace sector. Unison said that it intends to introduce end-forming technologies and tooling for tube and pipe flaring, flanging, beading, and squaring and deburring to its product range.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“We decided that the best way to ensure the future success of the PHI name, its products and brand reputation, was to seek acquisition,” PHI President Anthony D. Morrow said in the announcement.

“It was clear from the outset that the Unison team does everything we do and more — and is passionate about understanding and exceeding the needs of its customers.”
