Sonepar’s U.S. subsidiary has been certified under a cybersecurity standard that will allow it to serve federally regulated sectors, company officials announced this week.

Five years after making the decision to pursue it, Sonepar USA successfully completed the Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification Level 2 Advanced. CMMC Level 2 Advanced, company officials said, is a framework for the “tools, processes and controls” that protect sensitive data from cyber threats.

The designation would bolster Sonepar’s support for defense-related manufacturing, as well as transportation infrastructure, utilities and defense contractors.

“This milestone reinforces Sonepar’s role in securing customers’ data and strengthening the resilience of their supply chains,” Sonepar USA President Rob Taylor said in a statement. “CMMC and other heightened cybersecurity standards are also becoming the norm in other sectors like data centers, oil and gas, and wastewater treatment, so we’re approaching all of this proactively.”

“CMMC is an extremely rigorous framework, and we’re incredibly proud of the teams who’ve helped us get here,” added Sonepar Americas Senior Vice President, Digital Enterprise Don Sarno. “Sonepar is advancing cybersecurity standards within the electrical distribution industry.”
