BUENA VISTA TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — United Auto Workers union members at a Saginaw-area auto supplier have approved a new contract.

UAW Local 699 President Troy Newberry tells The Saginaw News that 72.5 percent of voting members at the Nexteer Automotive plant in Saginaw County's Buena Vista Township approved the contract. The revised deal includes family health care benefits for all workers and a flat rate performance compensation of $2,500.

The Saginaw News says the deal also could save jobs and give the union a say in who buys the electric power steering manufacturer from Nexteer's parent company, General Motors Co. The plant was formerly part of Delphi.

Union members rejected the original contract proposal on June 17.
