Fastenal's Roll Continues As April Daily Sales Jump Nearly 9% Year-Over-Year

Fastenal's year-over-year daily sales growth topped eight percent for a second-straight month, while its recent acquisition of Manufacturer's Supply Company provided a major boost to fastener sales.

Winona, MN-based Fastenal posted its April sales figures on Thursday, showing that the company's return to growth was even stronger last month.

The company's daily sales of $17.2 million grew 8.9 percent year-over-year, outpacing 8.4 percent growth in March. April daily sales grew 9.0 percent in the U.S.Fastenal's overall April sales increased 3.7 percent overall, but this past month had one fewer selling day than April 2016.

Fastenal's April daily sales growth to manufacturing customers grew 7.1 percent year-over-year, while non-residential construction sales improved by 6.6 percent. Those figures follow March growth of 8.2 and 6.1 percent, respectively.

The company's recent acquisition of Manufacturer's Supply Company (Mansco) — finalized March 31 — powered considerable growth in Fastenal's April fastener sales. The company's Fastener sales increased 6.0 percent year-over-year in April, while all other sales increased 10.7 percent. That follows March growth of 2.6 and 11.8 percent, respectively.

Fastenal — No. 10 on Industrial Distribution's Big 50 List — opened two new stores during April and didn't close any, ending the month with a total store count of 2,482, down 21 from the end of 2016.

Fastenal ended April with a total company headcount of 19,883, which includes 125 emplyees added from the Mansco acquisition. That count is up 259 from the end of 2016.
