SEATTLE — Ahead of Amazon.com’s Annual General Shareholder Meeting on Wednesday in Seattle, SumOfUs.org, an international consumer watchdog has launched a new online ad campaign targeting Amazon.com customers with ads that highlight supposed corporation’s human rights violations. The ads, designed to bring attention to Amazon.com’s worker abuse record, are part of an ad buy targeting hundreds of thousands of Amazon.com customers in the US and UK in the beginning of June.

At Wednesday's Amazon shareholders meeting, Lisa Lindsley, Senior Shareholder Advocacy Manager at SumOfUs.org, will present proxy resolution Item 6 — calling on the company to “identify and analyze potential and actual human rights risk of Amazon’s entire operations and supply chain.” The human rights risk resolution was filed jointly by four individual SumOfUs members who are Amazon shareholders.

Activists from SumOfUs will also deliver more than 54,000 signatures to Amazon.com executives at the shareholder meeting, calling on the global corporation to treat workers better and pay its share of taxes. Amongst the more than 54,000 signatures, the petition was signed by 160 Amazon shareholders, nearly 40,000 Amazon customers, and 193 current and former Amazon workers.
