Winona, MN - Fastenal Company released the numbers for their October sales month, noting that sales rose 16.9% year over year.
Net sales in October 2012 were $288,540 (Dollar amounts in thousands), up from 246,735 in the same month of 2011. There were two less business days in October of 2012, relfecting a daily sales change of -6.8%.
Commentary on sales growth and end markets:
End market (daily sales change) - During the month, manufacturing customers grew 9.1% and non-residential construction customers grew 0.9%. It is estimated that Hurricane Sandy lowered our daily sales growth by 1.5 percentage points during the month of October 2012.
Sales growth - The change in currencies in foreign countries (primarily Canada) relative to the United States dollar increased daily sales growth rate by 0.2% during the month.
