SKF To Open New Sealing Solutions Factory In Mexico, Close Oklahoma Plant

Production at the new factory will ramp up over the next six months, while production is transferred from SKF's Hobart, OK facility, which is being closed.

GOTHENBURG, Sweden — Bearings maker SKF on Wednesday announced the opening of a newly-built sealing solutions factory in Zapopan, Mexico. The new facility is located near the Group’s existing sealing solutions factory in Guadalajara, allowing for continued expansion of production, predominantly for automotive original equipment manufacturers in North America.

Stéphane Le Mounier, President, Automotive and Aerospace, says: “Our expansion in Mexico enables us to continue to develop our seals business across North America. Combining modern manufacturing technologies with our existing logistics infrastructure in the region will both contribute to improved production efficiency and service levels for our customers.”

The investment in Zapopan is part of the group’s ongoing efforts to better utilise its manufacturing assets. Production at the new factory will be ramping up during the coming six months. Concurrently, production will be transferred from the group’s factory in Hobart, Oklahoma, which is in the process of being closed.

In-line with the group’s ambitions to reduce the environmental impact of its operations, the new factory will be LEED certified.
