Nidec Acquires Italy's Motortecnica

Nidec said the acquisition will strengthen Nidec ASI's offering in the generators market, helping enhance and expand its service business.

Kyoto, Japan-based electric motors manufacturer Nidec announced Monday that it has acquired full ownership of Motortecnica, a privately-owned Italian company that makes and repairs electric machinery.

Nidec made the acquisition through its subsidiary, Nidec ASI, and Motortecnica will become a subsidiary of Nidec as a result.

Motortecnica's focus is in remanufacturing and refurbishment of electrical rotating machinery. The company was established in 1989 and operates out of Salerno, Italy. It adds 77 employees to Nidec. Motortecnica had 2014 sales of $12.25 million.

Nidec said the acquisition will strengthen Nidec ASI's offering in the generators market, helping enhance and expand its service business.

"Motortecnica's technical capabilities and installed base in power generation applications will allow Nidec ASI to expand in this market and to pursue opportunities for remanufacturing and refurbishing large electric generators," Nicec said in a release.
