Amazon To Add 3rd Kansas City Fulfillment Center

The 855,000 square foot facility will be located on the city's west side. Once it and Amazon's nearby facility in nearby Edgerton are completed, it will cive the company nearly 2 billion square foot of fulfillment space in the Kansas City area.

SEATTLE — Amazon.com announced Monday it will open a new fulfillment center in Kansas City, KS.

The new facility will be 855,000 square feet, create 1,000 full-time jobs and be located on the city's West side near the southwest side of Interstate 70 and the Turner Diagonal freeway.

It is the second large-sized fulfillment center Amazon has announced in a span of four months, and its third in the Kansas City area. Amazon currently operates a 267,000 square foot fulfillment center in Lenexa, and is building an 822,000 square foot fulfillment center in Edgerton, announced in March.

"Amazon’s announcement validates the unique and valuable benefits of locating an e-commerce operation in the KC region,” said Tim Cowden, president and CEO of Kansas City Area Development Council, in a release. "When a company learns they can reach 85 percent of the U.S. population in two days from Kansas City, plus our robust highway, rail and air cargo infrastructure supporting the distribution industry, there is a very strong case for location in our region."
