United Stationers Appoints New COO, CIO

Ahead of the company's June rebranding as Essendant, both the new COO and CIO have been with the company at least nine years.

Deerfield, IL-based workplace essentials supplier United Stationers announced two executive appoints on Friday, with the promotion of Timothy P. Connolly to the position of chief operating officer, and Janet Zelenka to the position of senior vice president and chief information officer. Both appointments are effective immediately.

Connolly was most recently the company's president, business transformation and supply chain and, prior to that, had held various managerial positions since his arrival in August 2003.

"Tim has led our office supply and janitorial businesses for the past two years," said P. Cody Phipps, United Stationers president and CEO. "He has an outstanding track record of delivering results and has consistently demonstrated strong operating leadership."

Zelenka joined the company in 2006 as vice president and general auditor and has held several key management positions, including vice president of finance and margin management.

"Janet has proven her transformational leadership skills in leading the transition of our office supply and janitorial businesses to a common operating and information technology platform," Phipps said.

United Stationers is currently undergoing a company rebranding as Essendant, which goes into effect in June.
