Kimball Midwest Opens Savannah Distribution Center

The family-owned facility has 20 employees and will continue hiring as Kimball grows into the 142,000 square foot space.

Kimball Midwest, No. 42 on Industrial Distribution's 2014 Big 50 List, formally opened its fourth distribution center on Friday, cutting the ribbon on its new facility in Savannah, Ga. The opening was less than seven months since Kimball announced plans for the new DC back in August.

The 142,000 square foot facility gives Kimball Midwest its first distribution center in the southeast, with its other three locations in Columbus, OH, Dallas, TX, and Reno, NV. Kimball has customers in 49 states.

The center has been operating since early January.

“Just in the first two months here, we’ve shipped more than 12,000 orders to more than 5,000 customers and 99 percent of those were next-day,” Kimball president and CEO Pat McCurdy told SavannahNow.com. “That is really huge for our customers and our sales force,” he said, adding that 99 percent of the product is shipped complete.

The family-owned facility has 20 employees and will continue hiring as Kimball grows into the space. The facility will house Kimball's inventory ranging from fasteners and cutting tools to chemicals, allowing nearly all customers of the new DC to have next-day service on orders.
