ITASCA, IL — The National Safety Council will announce the election of a new member to its Board of Directors at the group’s annual meeting, being held in San Diego in conjunction with the NSC Congress & Expo — the largest annual gathering of safety and health professionals. Philip K. Asherman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Chicago Bridge and Iron Company (CB&I), is accepting a two-year term.
“It is a pleasure for the NSC Board to welcome Mr. Asherman to our team,” said Deborah A.P. Hersman, National Safety Council president and CEO. “The skills and experience he brings to the table will help the Council in its mission to save more lives and prevent more injuries in the years to come.”
Mr. Asherman has more than 35 years of experience in the engineering and construction industry. He has been with CB&I since 2001 and was elected to his current position in 2006, previously serving as a senior executive and Executive Vice President. He is a member of the Board of Advisors for The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University, the American Petroleum Institute, the National Petroleum Council and serves as an independent director for the board of Arrow Electronics.
Following active duty in the U.S. Air Force from 1970-1974, Mr. Asherman graduated with a bachelor’s degree from the University of South Florida. He earned an M.A. from the Fletcher School at Tufts University, and has completed advanced management programs at INSEAD in Fontainebleau, France, and the Thunderbird School of Global Management in Phoenix, Arizona.
Founded in 1913 and chartered by Congress, the National Safety Council, nsc.org, is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to save lives by preventing injuries and deaths at work, in homes and communities, and on the road through leadership, research, education and advocacy.
