LOS ANGELES /PRNewswire/ -- Savings.com is launching PriceJump, a new service that instantly compares Amazon product prices to prices around the web, dispelling the myth that Amazon always offers the best deals. Amazon has become the default online shopping option for consumers' every day purchases, and with the addition of Amazon Fire Phone, many are anticipating a threat to brick and mortar stores with an increase in "showrooming." However,
new research from Savings.com finds that Amazon does not always have the lowest prices, making way for a new online retail trend: "Amazon Rooming."

*Specifically, Savings.com research found:

  • PriceJump can find a better price than Amazon on popular items more than 50 percent of the time.
  • Checking Amazon prices on PriceJump will save shoppers $47.50 on average.
  • On purchases over $100, PriceJump beat Amazon's prices 70 percent of the time, with an average savings of $70.00.
  • Savings were even higher in the Electronics and Photography categories. For example: Canon EOS 5D Mark III 22.3 MP Full Frame was found for $3,145 compared to $3,999 on Amazon. Haier CPN12XH9 12K Portable Air Conditioner was found for $399.90 compared to $769.82 on Amazon. Nikon D5100 16.2MP CMOS Digital SLR Camera was found for $349.00 compared to $679.99 on Amazon.

"Savings.com was founded on the belief that we can harness the power of the Internet to find consumers the best deals on everything they want," said Loren Bendele, President of Savings.com. "With the launch of PriceJump, we are reinforcing this mission, specifically with the Amazon consumer in mind. There are many reasons why shoppers increasingly default to Amazon as the starting point to their online shopping experience, and now with PriceJump, these shoppers will also know if Amazon has the best price, or not."

PriceJump is as easy to use as "cut and paste;" simply copy the URL of a product page on Amazon and paste it into the PriceJump search box. PriceJump uses information on the Amazon product page to do an apples-to-apples product search across more than 5,000 online sources in order to provide accurate and competitive pricing information.

To make it easy to scan, the pricing information is displayed in the form of a "traffic light" (red-yellow-green). Red signifies that the product is cheaper from another retailer, and it will provide the link to the lower priced product. Yellow signifies that the product may be cheaper elsewhere, but not for a significant amount. For convenience, yellow recommends purchasing on Amazon. Green signifies that Amazon has the best price and recommends purchasing on Amazon.

Online shoppers can also download the Savings.com PriceJump browser extension for Chrome (Firefox and Safari versions will be released soon), and the PriceJump pricing information will appear in the upper right hand corner of the browser window while shopping on Amazon.

Shoppers can access PriceJump by visiting Savings.com/PriceJump. For further analysis from the Savings.com PriceJump research, please visit Savings.com/RetailReports. For more information about Savings.com, please visit Savings.com.
