ICP Ambassadors Connect With Next Generation Employees At Local Career Fairs

One ICP Ambassador commented: “Attending a career fair is a great way to talk with young people who are not quite sure about what they want to do. Industrial distribution provides them with a great career choice if they are technically inclined and like working with people to solve problems.”

Chicago, IL — ICP Ambassadors have been busy attending local career fairs to help spread the word on the incredibly rewarding careers available in industrial distribution. Keith Nowak, president, MPT Drives, Inc. (Madison Heights, Mich.) set up an Industrial Careers Pathway® booth at the Henry Ford Community College Career Fair in Dearborn, Mich. on October 18. He was one of three individuals who manned the booth in two shifts (morning and afternoon) and visited with hundreds of students and alumni who were looking for career information.

Keith commented, “We had a great space in the front row. I brought along some candy, and that was a big hit. It got people to stop. Then I was able to talk with them and explain industrial distribution and the career opportunities it offers. Attending a career fair is a great way to talk with young people who are not quite sure about what they want to do. Industrial distribution provides them with a great career choice if they are technically inclined and like working with people to solve problems.”

On October 23, ICP Ambassador Danielle Lea, talent acquisition manager, Kaman Industrial Technologies Corporation (Indianapolis, Ind.) attended the Heartland Career Fair in Wabash, Ind. This event brought nearly 500 students from nine local school systems together to find out more about future careers. Danielle found there was interest among the students in learning about what industrial distribution is. She says, “Attending local career fairs at high schools or community/vocational colleges can be a great way to find viable future candidates for your company.  You can use this opportunity to pre-screen for potential employees and give your card or contact information to those you feel might be a good fit in the future.”

ICP Ambassadors are the local sales force for the field of industrial distribution.  As we attend more local events like these career fairs, we have the opportunity to connect with our future workforce and tell our personal stories of how we got involved and how much we love the field.

Through the collective support of Alliance Partners and their member companies, ICP is devoted to building awareness among the 18-34 year old audience about the incredibly rewarding careers available in industrial distribution.
