Cleveland, OH – Technology plays an increasingly important role for manufacturing, from those who have been in the factory for years to those who are just learning fabrication skills. Two Lincoln Electric experts will address different facets of technology in welding during separate “Expert Huddle” group discussions during Automate 2013, Jan. 21-24, at McCormick Place in Chicago. The Expert Huddle provides a different approach from a conference presentation. These discussion groups, led by industry experts, are held and moderated on the show floor during exhibition hours rather than in a conference center classroom.
Deanna Postlethwaite, Business Unit Manager for Lincoln Electric Virtual Welding Training, will discuss Utilizing Technology to Address the Need for a Manufacturing Workforce on Monday, Jan. 21 at 3 p.m., in Booth #1060 - Huddle #4. Heath Suraba, Lincoln Electric’s Automation Application Technologist, will discuss Considerations in High Speed Welding on Thursday, Jan. 24 at 1 p.m., in Booth #208 – Huddle #1.
Postlethwaite, who started her career at Lincoln Electric more than nine years ago, will address how the manufacturing industry needs to attract a new generation of skilled workers. Through education and engagement, the manufacturing industry can create a much-needed cultural shift to help to change the mindset of parents, educators, counselors, as well as students, and create interest in the skilled trades. The key to this cultural shift, according to Postlethwaite, is technology. She will discuss how the manufacturing industry needs to implement tools and curriculum that feature interactive elements and creative designs to not only challenge students but to also engage them, using innovation, technology and automation.
Suraba, who has been with Lincoln Electric for 12 years, will provide a comprehensive overview of the new technologies available for today’s automated welding world. Suraba will discuss the method and theory required to change from average welding speeds to maximum welding speeds. He also will cover how to incorporate the use of other welding factors, such as the choice of power source, process selection, torch angles and wire diameter, to name a few.
