Sharing Point of Sales Information
October 31, 2007

More than half of the distributors who responded to Industrial Distribution’s 61st Annual survey of Distributor Operations report that they share point-of-sales information with their suppliers. The breakout showed 58 percent are willing to share that information.

The breakouts by sales volume show:

-42 percent of distributors with sales of less than $10 million in sales share POS

-68 percent of distributors with sales of between $10 and $20 million share POS while roughly the same percentage of distributors with sales of more than $20 million shares that information.

As a result of receiving POS information, suppliers said they were offering rebates, discounts, co-op advertising, and market/research information.
