Distributors’ Top Concerns

For many years, distributors said their top concern was manufacturers selling direct. It still is a primary concern, but not like its previous importance, according to INDUSTRIAL DISTRIBUTION's 61st Annual Survey of Distributor Operations.

The top concerns in descending order of importance based on responses from more than 500 distributor executives are:

Economic conditions 41%
Distributor competition 34%
Increased operating costs 29%
Keeping employees 27%
Finding qualified people 26%
Manufacturers selling direct 22%
Customers going out of business 19%
