Opposition growing to health care bill
May 4, 2006

Association executives and some of their members are keeping their fingers crossed but opposition is growing to a U.S. Senate bill that would allow associations or trade groups the ability to offer health insurance to their members across state lines.  The proposed bill has passed the House and is expected to come for a Senate vote the week of May 8th.

Opponents to the bill, including 41 state attorney generals claim the measure would reduce state powers to regulate insurance companies.

During a press conference on May 3rd, New Hampshire Gov. John Lynch announced that he also was opposed to the bill.

Many distribution trade associations, business groups, and the National Federation of Independent Business have strongly supported passage of the bill which is called the Health Insurance Marketplace Modernization and Affordability Act.

Stay tuned. We’ll keep you informed.
