Distribution lagging in e-business
October 3, 2007

It may come as no surprise to those in our industry, but a new study shows that small distributors and other wholesalers are lagging behind other industries in the use of the Internet and their projections for future growth of sales via the Internet.

The study by the Small business Research Board and co-sponsored by Business Today magazine said that more than 47 percent of all wholesale and distribution companies participating in the study do not have websites. And, it noted in a press release that 72 percent of these small distributors, including those with websites, do not sell and products or services on line.

Nearly 97 percent said they expect their Internet revenues to stay the same or increase during the next 12 to 24 months with 27 percent of those projecting increases.
