Vulcan Lead, Inc., a manufacturer of custom lead components, helped launch Sailing Vessel Dennis Sullivan, the first tall ship built in Wisconsin in over 100 years, as part of Wisconsin's 150 year anniversary. Vulcan Lead custom fabricated the lead counterweights that form the 45-ton keel ballast below the ship's waterline. Vulcan Lead donated the labor to design, produce and finish the six massive interlocking blocks that form the ballast. The three-masted schooner measures 133 feet overall with a 24 foot beam and a draft of almost nine feet. Built in cooperation with the Wisconsin Lake Schooner Education Assn., the ship will offer hands-on learning and inspire interest in the Great Lakes heritage.
