Put CRM in the palm of your hand

Handheld computer devices are offering more features than ever: larger storage capacity, wireless Internet and e-mail, faster synchronization with personal computers and smaller size. Sales and management personnel can store thousands of names and addresses, sales figures and meeting dates. Handhelds can even display a sales presentation.
New, faster handhelds come out often and, like laptops, mid-range models get cheaper every month.
For the traveler, the smaller and lighter an item, the better. Perhaps the biggest benefit for travelers is the wireless Internet which can provide e-mail and allow changes in call schedules. The new Palm® M500 and M505 supports those functions.
When a last-minute change to a meeting is called into your switchboard, they can update your schedule. You are updated via an alert to your handheld computer. You can read it or leave it stored in memory without being interrupted by a phone call. Your staff doesn't need to worry about trying to reach you.
This feature is available through laptop computers. However, why not have a machine with wireless capability and a lot of memory that weighs less than a pound and fits in your suit coat pocket?
Here are some handheld features to check out:
- The Palm VIIx (with MyPalm™ mobile portal) allows access to the World Wide Web to check inventory at a vendor's Web site and includes an online date book that syncs with your computer, an address book, to-do list, events directory, shared calendars and more.
- The Handspring VisorPhone is an attachment to a Visor PDA, turning the handheld into a phone and computer in one unit. Receive or make calls, send text messages or make a conference call.
- Less expensive models of handhelds from Palm and Handspring offer many features including wireless Internet access.
