Briggs-Weaver to be sold

Coppell, Texas— Briggs Weaver, the largest of Sammons Distribution's industrial holdings, is being considered for purchase confirmed John Washburn, Sammons senior vice president and general counsel. He said an unnamed party was looking into the purchase of the firm. Sammons recorded $625 million in year 2000 sales volume.
"There has been no agreement yet," said Washburn. He indicated that Sammons is looking to its core business and said of Briggs Weaver: "It just doesn't fit into our future."
Washburn said the company plans to sell the remainder of its industrial business as part of the re-focusing, as well.
