Canada's power transmission distribution sales slump sharply in August

Sales for the Canadian power transmission distribution industry slipped 11.4 percent in August compared with July, according to the Power Transmission Distributors Assn.Distributors’ sales of power transmission and motion control products north of the border also fell sharply compared with August of last year, dropping 7 percent, and their confidence in the industry’s prospects slipped 0.4 points to 5.3 on a 10-point scale.
Canadian manufacturers’ sales dropped 9 percent month-on-month and 13.9 percent year-on-year, posting a confidence level of 5, down 0.1 percent on the 10-point scale.
American distributors posted slight sales declines of 1.4 percent compared with July and 1.2 percent compared with August 2007.
Sales for PT/MC product manufacturers in the U.S. posted an uptick, rising 0.2 percent compared with July, but fell by the same margin compared with August 2007. American manufacturers’ confidence fell 0.1 percent to 5.3.
