Home Depot to build new DCs in Ohio and California

Home Depot Inc. plans to build two new distribution centers in Redlands, Calif., and Monroe, Ohio, the Home Channel News Web site reported (registration required)Construction of the home improvement retail giant’s roughly 658,000-square-foot facilities in California’s Inland Empire region and suburban Cincinnati is slated to begin in early 2009.
It’s the latest move in Home Depot’s strategy to boost its supply chain efficiency by implementing a fast-flow “rapid deployment center” model., moving away from centralized distribution.
Home Depot announced the construction of new DCs near McCalla, Ala., Dixiana, S.C., and Winchester, Va., earlier this year.
