Fastenal’s August sales rise 6 percent

Net sales for Fastenal rose 6.3 percent to $205.8 million in August, compared with $193.6 million during the same period last year.

Daily sales for the Winona, Minn.-based fastener and MRO distributor rose 12.9 percent since January, up from a 12.1 percent increase for the same period in 2007.

Fastenal said it opened nine new stores in August, the same number as in August 2007, for a total of 129 new locations so far this year.

The company, which ranked ninth on INDUSTRIAL DISTRIBUTION's 2008 Big 50 list of distributors, employed 13,151 workers as of the end of August.

Fastenal posted sales of $2.1 billion during fiscal 2007.
