United Stationers to buy Emco’s N.J. operation

Grand Rapids, Mich.-based Emco, which distributes office products, also has a distribution center in North Bergen, N.J.

The deal, expected to close in early September, increases Deerfield, Ill.-based business products distributor United Stationer’s reach into the East Coast market.

“This acquisition adds to our already strong base of customers and will help us advance toward our long-term financial goals. We believe that this transaction will be accretive to earnings beginning in 2008 and will add incremental annual revenues of approximately $70 million,” president Cody Phipps said.

United Stationers also bought master distributor ORS Nasco late last year for about $180 million from Dallas-based Brazos Private Equity.
